Vermont Business Magazine On July 16, 2024, the Vermont Criminal Justice Council held a scheduled hearing to hear evidence regarding a law enforcement officer’s certification. In January of 2023, former Vermont State Police officer Zachary Gauthier plead guilty to three misdemeanor charges including one count of Violation of Abuse Prevention Order, one count of False Reports to Law Enforcement Authorities, and one count of Violation of Conditions of Release.
The professional regulation subcommittee of the Council approved charging Mr. Gauthier with a Category A violation of unprofessional conduct complaint based on his criminal convictions and the facts supporting the criminal convictions. Gauthier resigned from the Vermont State Police on April 15, 2022 and has not been employed as a law enforcement officer since that date.
At the hearing, Zachary Gauthier presented evidence on his behalf for Council consideration. At the conclusion of the hearing, after a deliberative executive session, the Council voted unanimously to permanently decertify Gauthier’s Vermont Law enforcement certification. The notice of decertification will be reported to the NDI (National Decertification Index).
