Department staff responded and detained an individual following an attempted escape
Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Corrections today reported an unsuccessful escape attempt at Southern State Correctional Facility (SSCF) in Springfield. The individual was identified as Christoph Berger.
Christoph Berger, 28, is detained on a charge of Fugitive from Justice. He was lodged at SSCF on July 6.
On July 11, at approximately 4:05pm, correctional staff observed Mr. Berger attempting to scale an internal fence in the yard of the facility. Mr. Berger quickly complied with officers’ commands and was secured without force.
Per Department policy, Vermont State Police and the Department’s Corrections Investigative Unit will conduct an independent investigation of the incident.
