VermontBiz The Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center (NE-DBIC) has grant funds available to support new dairy processing projects throughout the Northeast. These grant funds are available to dairy farmers looking to diversify by adding processing to their operations, and to non-farm value-added dairy business start-ups.
Funds may be used for specialized dairy processing equipment and supplies, food safety enhancements, marketing and branding, increasing market access, and/or product development.
Awards will range from $15,000 to $75,000, with a 25% match commitment. Approximately $500,000 in total funds are available for this grant round.
The Request for Applications will be released on July 9th, and applications will be due on September 5th.
Growing with High Tunnels in a Changing Climate
Join NOFA-VT on August 14th for a workshop at Joe's Brook Farm to learn about siting a new high tunnel and the management of water, heat, and wind for new and existing structures. Protected growing spaces, like high tunnels, can offer more control over aspects like temperature and water in a changing climate.
UVM Extension representatives will be on site to discuss water management related to high tunnels as well as how to mitigate against extreme weather.

Monitoring Change in Soil Structure, Biodiversity, and Landscape Function
Join the White River NRCD for a free field workshop on July 12th in Thetford to learn how to conduct visual soil and biodiversity assessments, water infiltration, and aggregate stability tests.
Participants will learn a variety of simple and inexpensive ways to observe and monitor soil structure and function and learn about its relevance for our region.

Agroforestry, Managing for Pollinators, and Planned Grazing in a Changing Climate
Join the White River NRCD and three experts on July 15th for a free pasture walk at Maplemont focused on agroforestry, pasture rehabilitation, and pollinator and bird-friendly farming.
Experts will discuss tips for supporting, identifying, and monitoring pollinators; pasture rehabilitation and how to plan grazing in a changing climate; and agroforestry system establishment, management, and considerations.

Pests, Parasites, and Pastures: A Livestock IPM Workshop
Join UVM Extension on July 18th for a free workshop at Philo Ridge Farm that will give farmers an insight into ruminant pest and parasite management on their pastures and farms.
