VermontBiz Today, Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL), member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement in response to today’s Supreme Court ruling, granting former President Trump immunity for plotting to subvert the 2020 election:
“Today, the Supreme Court delivered another shocking blow to our democracy. This dangerous, disgraceful ruling allows Presidents to act like dictators with no consequence. Our democracy is built on the idea that no one is above the law. However, today, the Supreme Court dismantled that principle.
“Treason and inciting an insurrection are not core powers afforded to a President. Donald Trump has made clear he’s prepared to act as a dictator from the Oval Office from day one and the Supreme Court just gave him full permission. Congress must act to reel in this extremist MAGA court. Our democracy is on the line.”
