Vermont Business Magazine Mayor Emma Mulvaney-Stanak called for a special election to fill the vacant Ward 3 School Commissioner seat following the May 20, 2024 resignation of Commissioner Saja Almogalli.
Mayor Mulvaney-Stanak said the following in a statement:
“I am deeply grateful for former Commissioner Almogalli and her service on the School Board. Throughout her time on the Commission, Saja was an impactful voice for marginalized communities, especially immigrant and refugee families in the Old North End and Downtown. I am grateful that her public service will continue as a Burlington Police Officer.”
In consultation with the City Attorney and the Clerk Treasurer’s Office, and pursuant to the City Charter, the Mayor has called the special Ward 3 election to be held on August 13, 2024, in conjunction with the State Primary Election.
Burlington residents interested in running for School Commissioner must return completed petitions to the Clerk Treasurer’s Office on Monday, June 17, 2024 by 5:00 PM. Petitions are available in the Clerk Treasurer’s Office at City Hall or on the City website.
