Jas Darland of Charlotte, head of school at Lake Champlain Waldorf School, has bee named executive director of Sail Beyond Cancer Vermont, effective March 18. She will succeed the organization's founder, Suzanne Snyder, who is transitioning to direct Sail Beyond Cancer USA.
Darland began her career as a civilian with the Coast Guard. There, she learned lessons in teamwork, accountability, organization and responsibility, which she carried with her in subsequent positions at nonprofit and community-based educational organizations.
Darland captured the search committee’s attention with her life experiences, her passion for Sail Beyond Cancer Vermont's mission, as well as the kind, intelligent and articulate presence she brought to every interaction.
“I am energized and ready to set sail and be a part of this incredible organization that is dedicated to providing such transformative experiences to members of our community,” Darland said.
