Denise Johnson, retired associate justice of the Vermont Supreme Court, and Maureen Scanlin, an executive at the California-based consulting and engineering firm Tetra Tech, have been appointed chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Vermont Council on World Affairs Board of Directors.

They will be joined on the board's executive committee by Andrew Waxler, legal director and property manager at Pomerleau Real Estate in Burlington, who will serve as treasurer, and Gail Albert, co-founder and brand ambassador at Shelburne Vineyard, who will serve as secretary.

In addition, the council appointed four new members to its board. They are Roy Beckford, associate dean and director of UVM Extension; Katia Vieira de Moraes LaCasse, senior clinical manager at Save the Children International; Mark Andrews, associate portfolio manager at Hanson + Doremus Investments and Planning in Burlington; and Mohamed Diop, director of multilingual learner programs at Winooski School District.

"The addition of these esteemed individuals to our board, alongside the appointment of our executive committee, marks an exciting chapter for VCWA," said President and CEO Patricia Preston. "Their diverse backgrounds and unwavering commitment to global engagement will strengthen our efforts to build bridges across cultures and promote international understanding."
