Burlington Neighborhood Code

The Joint Committee held 8 meetings between October 4th and December 19th to review the proposed Neighborhood Code and made modifications to several recommendations originally presented by staff. Over the course of these meetings, the Joint Committee's work has focused on the major recommendations related to the Neighborhood Code purpose, and a number of standards to ensure these recommendations can be implemented.

Going forward, the Neighborhood Code will be reviewed in two parts. The Joint Committee referred Part 1 of this amendment, with recommendation, to the full Council at its January 9th Public Hearing. The City Council will discuss the amendment at a future meeting, date to be determined.

South End Coordinated Redevelopment Process

In February of 2023, the City entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the owners of land neighboring City-owned property in the South End that was recently rezoned to the South End Innovation Zoning Overlay District (SEID). The purpose of the MOU is to facilitate a conceptual design and development framework for the coordinated redevelopment of the parcels by applying the proposed regulations of SEID, resulting in a vibrant, sustainable, and accessible mixed-use neighborhood in the heart of the district.

Following an Open House public meeting on December 7, 2023, the City is seeking public feedback on design concepts through an online survey that will be available through the end of February.
