The Community of Vermont Elders (COVE) closes operations

Vermont Business Magazine The Board of Directors of the Community of Vermont Elders (COVE), voted unanimously for Dissolution of the non-profit agency. This vote was taken December 22, 2023 and goes into effect immediately.

COVE has been a trusted and valued advocate for Vermont Elders for over 41 years, however, ongoing financial challenges and limited resources have led to the decision to cease operations.

“This decision to close down the operations of COVE has been incredibly difficult,” said Jim Holway, COVE’s President of the Board of Directors. “The organization has faced mounting challenges over a prolonged period of time, including insurmountable financial issues warranting the Board’s action on Friday.”

COVE’s office shall close permanently on December 31, 2023 and all program activities are ceasing effective immediately as the programs and grants wind down.

The Board has transition plans in place and will continue its work over the coming weeks until all requirements are concluded.

“Most members of the Board are serving because the organizations we represent were member organizations of COVE, and we all care very deeply about COVE’s mission,” said Holway. “This is a painful decision, and the Board wishes to express our gratitude to the COVE staff, who have carried out COVE’s important projects conscientiously and with the utmost respect for our many project partners, and for all of us who are aging in Vermont.”
