Burlington veterinarian certified as expert exotic pet specialist

Dr. Jordan Adair

Dr. Jordan Adair, head of the exotics department at Burlington Emergency and Veterinary Specialists, has earned certification as a diplomate — an expert in his field of specialization — from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Adair becomes the only exotic pet specialist in Vermont.

To obtain diplomate status, Adair mastered a rigorous and demanding application process and board examination. Before sitting for the extensive, two-day examination, a veterinarian must complete either an AVMA-accredited residency program or six years of clinical veterinary practice. In addition, case reports, references, descriptions of practice procedures, and professional education records must be submitted and pass review.

Adair is a graduate of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and completed an internship and residency at the NorthCoast Bird and Exotics Specialty Hospital in Ohio.

The exotics department at BEVS provides wellness and preventive care, nutrition, advanced diagnostics, medical management, and orthopedic and soft-tissue surgery for small mammals, all nonvenomous reptiles, most avian species, some small primates and wildlife.
