Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger (left) has named Joe Turner (right), residential property appraiser in the assessor’s office for the past year, as the city's next city assessor. Turner will serve as acting assessor until his nomination is confirmed by the City Council.
“In looking for the next leader for the assessor’s office, it was my priority to find someone not only with the requisite skills and experience in the discipline of tax assessment, but also who cares deeply about the direct impact of the assessor’s role on advancing city-wide goals and impacting directly the lives of our constituents,” Weinberger said.
Turner has worked in the appraisal field for more than 20 years, including having owned an appraisal business, working in various government roles in North Carolina and serving as the director of assessment in Hartford, Vermont. Over the course of his career, he has assisted in the appraisal of approximately 130,000 parcels for taxation.
Turner is a graduate of Western Carolina University and is pursuing a master's degree in information technology at Champlain College.
