Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) will be applying for federal funding to repair and replace broken and non-operational electric vehicle (EV) chargers to improve the reliability of existing EV charging infrastructure throughout the state.
Under the Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator federal program, $100 million is available nationwide for existing public and private Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFC) and Level 2 chargers.
AOT is preparing an application on behalf of Vermont and invites station owners and operators to submit letters of interest by Monday, October 9. To participate, a 20% match is required, stations must be made operational within 12 months of the award, and station owners or operators must agree to share data about the operational status of their equipment. Charging station operators who are interested in this funding opportunity and would like to be included in Vermont’s application should email Hilary DelRoss, Sustainability Projects Coordinator, at [email protected].
To be eligible for funding, charging stations must also be listed as “Temporarily Unavailable” on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center (AFDC) map by October 11, 2023. Check the status of your charging station using this AFDC map link, which is prefiltered to show all public and private DCFC and Level 2 charging stations in Vermont with a “Temporarily Unavailable” status. If your charging station is not currently functioning and is not currently listed on the AFCD map as “Temporarily Unavailable,” you must get the status updated via the station’s Application Programming Interface (API) by October 11.
The EV Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator program is funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program and is part of a larger effort to develop a consistent and convenient network of EV chargers throughout the country. Vermont’s NEVI program to build new charging stations is under development, with more information expected to be released later this year.
