  • Identify and close gaps in the Vermont, the Northeast Region, and the U.S. supply chains.

Manufacturing Day: Changing People’s Perceptions

Manufacturing Day, or MFG Day, has grown to mean many things since it was officially proclaimed in 2012. Some celebrate on the first Friday in October with an event at a manufacturing facility or a school. Others participate in a regional celebration at an events center. Some areas have a Manufacturing Week, with multiple touch points, while others celebrate Manufacturing Month. No matter how it’s being celebrated, we can all agree that MFG Day is a great rallying point to change people’s perceptions about manufacturing and promote careers that depend on creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and technology.

Last year, there were more than 3,000 events with more than 325,000 students, parents, and community members attending. It’s not too late to leverage this great opportunity and it’s a great time to think about how to take a more strategic approach to building your workforce pipeline.

Planning your MFG Day event Check out the dozens of ways you and your teams can host an event – webinars, toolkits and so much more are at your fingertips to plan your best manufacturing event ever! Since MFG Day’s main focus is careers in manufacturing, we highly encourage you to reach out to your local Career & Technical Education Center (CTE). Be sure to view previously recorded webinars at MFG Day Webinars.

Host An Event Registering your event contributes to the larger MFG Day phenomenon in a major way. The more events we know about, the more people we can say we’ve affected — which inspires more interest in manufacturing.

MFG Day makes a big impact in shifting the misconception of modern manufacturing. Tell your story by opening your doors – physically or virtually – and hosting an event with students, parents, educators, media, community leaders and elected officials. Registered events are reviewed for completeness and are generally made public within 24 hours after registrations are submitted.

Find An Event Check out what’s going on in the Green Mtn. State; be sure to type Vermont USA into the search field and plan to attend one or more events!

MFG Day is an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute, with the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association as a founding partner. Check out any of the above links where many free resources and ideas are available to companies, organizations and educational institutions desiring to host special events. You may also contact Robynn Albert, VMEC Marketing and Training Manager, [email protected].

River Valley Advanced Manufacturing Institute to initiate an Advanced Manufacturing Training Pathway

The VTP has been offering performance-based workforce training grants for over 30 years. The VTP provides up to 50% of the training cost for pre-employment, new hire, and/or incumbent employee training. Grants are paid out on a reimbursement

SBA and FEMA Deadline Extension

The SBA is extending its deadline for Physical Damage loan applications to October 12, 2023.

This is for businesses that suffered physical damages in Caledonia, Chittenden, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans, Rutland, Washington, Windham, and Windsor Counties. Damages must have occurred between July 7 and July 17, 2023.

Disaster survivors with insurance should not wait for their settlement before applying for an SBA loan; visit one of Vermont's three SBA Disaster Recovery Centers.

FEMA is also extending its deadline until October 12. FEMA provides grants to individuals in disaster-declared counties that can be used for temporary housing, home repairs and other disaster-related needs. Despite the extension, FEMA is urging people to apply now online or in person so their claim is processed as soon as possible.
