Vermont Business Magazine Norwich University announced today that their Exercise Science Program has received national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
Programmatic accreditation through CAAHEP is specifically intended for Exercise Science or related departments with a professional preparation tract designed for students seeking employment opportunities in the health, fitness, and exercise industry.
Norwich’s Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science has three professional-preparation tracks. The program prepares students for a wide variety of careers in performance and clinical settings, including work with tactical athletes (such as military personnel and firefighters), sports athletes, and clinical populations (such as cardiac rehabilitation).
The Norwich University Department of Health and Human Performance currently offers two of the school’s 3 + 2 accelerated degree programs. Students wishing to pursue the Master of Athletic Training degree become a part of the university’s accelerated BS-to-MAT program. Offered in the Health Science BS-to-MAT and Exercise Science BS-to-MAT tracks, both programs allow students to complete master’s degrees in five years.
Obtaining a CAAHEP Accreditation is an important milestone for individuals who wish to gain professional certification through the American College of Sports Medicine. Beginning in 2027, the ACSM Certification Board intends to update the minimum requirement for the ACSM-EP and ACSM-CEP certification exams to be limited to college graduates with degrees from a regionally accredited college or university with CAAHEP accredited programs.
For program director Dr. Rachele Pojednic, this accreditation represents one more leap forward for Norwich, the Exercise Science Program, and its dedicated students.
“Norwich’s Exercise Science Program prioritizes evidence-based practice and authentic learning experiences, with all students required to complete an internship in their senior year,” continued Pojednic. “Adding to it the weight and reputation of the CAAHEP accreditation places our graduates one step ahead of their competitors when it comes to securing employment after graduation.”
Norwich’s Exercise Science program is also recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program. The NSCA Education Recognition Program (ERP) recognizes and distinguishes programs with approved and standardized strength and conditioning or personal training curricula. Recognized programs are designed to prepare students for the NSCA-Certified Personal Trainer® (NSCA-CPT®) or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist® (CSCS®) certifications.
