GMCB announces start of statewide community engagement project

Vermont Business Magazine Today, the Green Mountain Care Board (GMCB) announced the start of the statewide community engagement project to support hospital transformation. Guided by the legislature’s directive in Act 167 of 2022, this project will identify community-informed opportunities to improve the sustainability of Vermont’s health care system.

“Our health care system is facing a sustainability crisis while at the same time Vermonters are struggling with staggering health care costs,” Owen Foster, GMCB Chair. “This project allows communities to intentionally plan ways to improve local access to affordable, quality care with the support of experts in data analytics and health system transformation.”

In 2022, the legislature allocated funding for GMCB to review data and solicit local input to develop options that ensure Vermonters have sustained access to affordable care.

As directed by the Legislature, GMCB has retained an expert in health care system transformation who will be working directly with community members, businesses, hospitals, and health care organizations to ensure a wide range of voices are represented in these discussions.

Community meetings are slated to begin in the fall, with initial outreach beginning this month. Using data and input from meetings, tailored options will be brought back to communities.

Vermonters are encouraged to sign up for emails about community meetings in their region by visiting GMCB’s Hospital Sustainability webpage. Meetings will be a mixture of virtual and in-person to allow broad participation throughout the process. Details will be posted on GMCB’s website as they become available.
