AGC of Vermont selected as a 2023 Power of Associations Gold Award Winner

Associated General Contractors of Vermont This week we received notification that AGC of Vermont Inc was selected as a 2023 Power of Associations Gold Award Winner which for us is a huge success and measurement of our programs. We are very honored that AGC/VT, a statewide association, is one of the only statewide associations to win. The other winners are mostly made up of large nationwide associations like AGC of America, but this brave little state association stands among them.

Last spring in an election year a record number of legislators announced either a retirement or that they were seeking higher offices. Your government affairs team and lobbying team along with staff knew that we were headed towards uncharted territory as the composition of the legislature would be forged and would last years if not decades because many tend to stay in office forever.

With the government affairs team and your board of directors guiding the process we put together the AGC/VT “Run to Win” plan. The plan started with identification of open and competitive seats, a free well attended candidate training program with Richard Wobby, EVP and Matt Musgrave was offered to all candidates. Then through the next 6 months we had record engagements at our in-person Burgers and Brews, record fundraising and support of candidates and additional support which culminated in successful campaigns for 36 out of 43 candidates of both major parties we supported. This was a huge win for contractors as we worked to forge those relationships that will benefit us in the future.

Earlier this year AGC/VT submitted the description and results of our program to the ASAE (American Society of Association Executives) of which we are members. In other words, ASAE is the “association for associations” and they provide support, training and programs so that we can better provide services to you, OUR members.

This huge win for your association rests upon your Government Affairs Committee chaired by Cheryl Harvey of Harvey’s Plumbing Heating and Excavation, LLC, your PAC Committee chaired by AGC/VT President Ken Pidgeon of Engineers Construction, Inc., the AGC/VT lobbying team including William Shouldice and Associates, your board of directors and as importantly all the members who contributed their time toconnecting with us and the candidates at our different events. This is your award, and we are pleased to be along for the ride!
