Vermont Business Magazine Two Montpelier nonprofit organizations announced today the creation of the Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund. The fund will assist Montpelier downtown businesses in cleanup and rebuilding after the devastating flooding that occurred on July 11, 2023.

"Our small businesses are the heart and soul of our downtown,” said Katie Trautz, Executive Director of Montpelier Alive. “They need our help now to take their next steps towards recovery."

“This flood event has absolutely devastated our beloved downtown,” said Sarah Jarvis, chair of the Montpelier Foundation. “Without immediate and generous financial support, the small businesses that our community depends upon will not be able to re-open.”

The Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund will provide grants to downtown businesses. The fund will be administered by a committee that has been created by the two organizations.

“We have been overwhelmed by the incredible volunteer support we have received from the community,” said Jen Roberts, co-owner of Onion River Outdoors. “The next phase of the recovery is critical and is going to require a substantial amount of money. The recovery fund will be essential to help businesses get back on their feet.”

Donations to the Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund can be made through the web sites of either organization. All donations are tax-deductible, and 100 percent of contributions will be distributed to flood victims.
