Fletcher Free Library celebrates 150 years

Vermont Business Magazine This July the Fletcher Free Library (FFL) in Burlington will celebrate 150 years of serving the community. Their birthday celebration will be held on Saturday, July 15th from 12:00 to 3:30 p.m. at the Main Library. All events are free and open to the public. The celebration will include a parade, performers, music, community art, birthday cake, and more.

The celebration will begin with a costume parade down Church Street at noon. Each participant is invited to come dressed as their Favorite Literary Character or Author or to carry a favorite book. 

Participants in the parade should register online at fletcherfree.org by July 10th and arrive at 11:30 a.m. to the First Unitarian Universalist Society parking lot the day of the celebration. Participants will receive 150th buttons to wear.

Free performances include a 12:30 p.m. musical program by Mikahely, a 1:30 p.m. magic show with Marko the Magician, and a 2:30 p.m. music and dance performance by A2VT. Throughout the day there will be airbrushed tattoos from Little Artsy Faces, a photobooth, Cyanotypes Community Art with Renee Greenlee, a scavenger hunt, Bubbles with Phinneus, and birthday cake. Local dignitaries will make remarks. The event will also feature an exhibit on the history of the library. 

“We are celebrating all the wonderful services the Fletcher Free Library has provided the community of Burlington for 150 years,” said FFL Director Mary Danko. “Times have changed in the past 150 years, from card catalogs to downloadable eBooks, but the Library has never wavered from its dedication to providing books, information, and a librarian’s help to anyone who needs it.  We celebrate all the positive impacts we’ve made and we look forward to the next 150 years as we continue to meet the needs of our community.”
