Alternates selected for Employer Healthcare Commission bargaining unit

The Vermont Employer Healthcare Commission has named Akua Smith of Enosburg Falls and Michael Moser of West Rutland as alternate members of its bargaining unit. The appointments clear the way for the next round of contract discussions on health care benefits for the state's K-12 public school teachers and staff, scheduled to begin next April.

“Akua and Mike bring a wealth of health care experience and a commitment to providing the best possible health outcomes for our teachers and staff,” said Mark Koenig, chair of the Vermont Employer Commissioners. “Their current position is a stepping stone toward becoming an employer commissioner in the future.”

Moser’s interest in public education led to his involvement with his community’s local school. He began as a member of the Quarry Valley School District board, serving the towns of Procter, Poultney and West Rutland. In addition to his local district, Moser’s portfolio now includes membership on the board of the Greater Rutland County Supervisory Union.

Smith has long made it a priority to be engaged in her children’s schools, serving as a leader in classrooms, the PTA and now the school board. She currently serves on the Enosburg Falls-Richford School District board in the Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union.
