Abenaki artist Vera Sheehan wins CWE Rising Star Award

Vera Sheehan, an Abenaki artist and founding member of the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association, was presented with the Center for Women & Enterprise Andrea C. Silbert Rising Star Award at CWE's annual auction and gala April 26 at the Omni Parker House in Boston. The award recognizes Sheehan as someone who has been economically empowered by her relationship with the center and celebrates her representation of women who are lifting up the world.

Sheehan is an artist, educator, and activist who has lectured and exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She specializes in making distinctive twined bags, baskets and textiles from plant fibers.

"Vera is a talented artist, a committed community leader and an inspiration to women everywhere," said CWE Vice President of Policy Gwen Pokalo Hart. "We are proud to support her as she continues to achieve her goals and make a difference in the world."

The Vermont Abenaki Artists Association is a Native American arts organization that serves the public by connecting them to Abenaki educators and artists. The Rising Star Program is sponsored by Globalization Partners, which helps companies grow their business in more than 187 countries.
