Crystal Currier, controller for the Vermont Public Power Supply Authority in Waterbury Center, received the Mark Crisson Leadership and Managerial Excellence Award during the American Public Power Association’s national conference in Nashville, TN. The award recognizes managers at a utility, joint action agency or state or regional association who steer their organizations to new levels of excellence, lead by example and inspire staff to do better.
“Crystal is exceptionally deserving of the Mark Crisson award,” said VPPSA General Manager Ken Nolan. “I have worked with her in various capacities for nearly three decades and have never seen anyone as dedicated to public power, as competent in handling any task handed to her or as able to inspire her team to succeed.”
Currier has successfully assisted multiple VPPSA-member utilities with revitalizing their financial procedures. When Ludlow Electric Light Department lost its controller, Currier arrived on site and helped staff with accounting, payroll and financial reporting. Similarly, when Barton Village found itself without a utility manager, Currier stepped in to assist the utility with finance, accounting and management support.
Prior to her role at VPPSA, Currier managed the small municipal utility in the village of Hyde Park, VT. She has managed VPPSA’s financial activities for nearly two decades and has been instrumental in maintaining the authority’s strong financial position.
