Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging welcomes new volunteer program staff

The Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging in Saint Johnsbury has hired Felicity Norko, a recent graduate of Northern Vermont University, and Brooke Brown, a senior at NVU, to support two of its key volunteer programs. Norko will serve as coordinator of the council's Senior Companion Program, and Brown will serve as home-based volunteer wellness coordinator for the agency's wellness programs.

The Senior Companion Program comprises volunteers aged 55 and above who provide assistance and friendship to seniors that have difficulty with daily living tasks such as shopping, organizing paperwork or getting to medical appointments. The program aims to help seniors remain independent longer and aid family caregivers.

As volunteer wellness coordinator, Brown will provide additional wellness support and classes directly into the homes of clients to further enhance their ability to age well independently. This new position is funded through a grant from the Vermont Department of Aging and Independent Living.
