Alexia Federhen of Bennington, a 25-year-old graduate of Cornell University, was crowned Miss Vermont 2022 on April 24 at the Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph. At a separate competition that day, Abigail Hunter, a 17-year-old high school senior from Poultney, was crowned Miss Vermont's Outstanding Teen.
As Miss Vermont, Federhen was awarded a $7,000 scholarship, a $5,000 Ellis Strategies In-Kind Scholarship and a $500 expense allowance. She will next compete at the 101st Miss America Competition in Uncasville, CT, in the fall. Federhen's social impact initiative is “Speak Out, Reach Out: Supporting Mental Health Awareness.”
For being named Outstanding Teen, Hunter was awarded a $2,000 scholarship, a $5,000 Ellis Strategies In-Kind Scholarship and a $500 expense allowance. She advances to Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in Dallas in August. Hunter's social impact initiative is “Pursue the ARTS: Building Acceptance, Respect, Tolerance and Safety.”
“Our board is thrilled to begin working with Alexina and Abagail,” said Darcie Fisher, executive director of the Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization. “Their social impact initiative work will no doubt make an impact on people in every county in Vermont.”
