Owyang elected senior vice president at Vermont Electric Power Company

Vermont Electric Power Company announced the election of Colin Owyang as senior vice president following a unanimous vote of the company’s board of directors. This is a return engagement for Owyang, who previously served as VELCO’s senior vice president, corporate secretary and general counsel before leaving in 2019 for a position at Franklin Energy.

“We are excited and grateful to have Colin rejoin the team” said company President and Chief Executive Office Tom Dunn. “His incisive intellect, servant leadership skills and unimpeachable integrity will help our company adapt, improve and thrive at a time of industry transformation. I couldn’t be more pleased.”

Reacting to his election, Owyang said, “VELCO’s role in Vermont is unique as is its ability to advance the state’s energy vision. Serving a new, expanded role at the company even as I renew valued co-worker relationships is an incredible opportunity and one I deeply appreciate.”

As the company’s only SVP, Owyang is working alongside VELCO Chief Operating Officer Christopher Root until Root’s long-planned retirement in April. It is expected that Owyang will then stand for election to succeed Root as VELCO’s chief operating officer.

Owyang is a graduate of Yale College and Yale University and holds a law degree from the University of Michigan. He serves as vice chair of the board of trustees at Champlain College and as a member of the Restorative Justice Panel in Shelburne, where he lives with his family.
