GIV welcomes new Development Director Tamira Martel

The Governor’s Institutes of Vermont (GIV) is excited to announce its new Development Director, Tamira Martel! Tamira was selected from over 60 candidates to help the nonprofit organization ensure that its programs are accessible to all students, no matter their family’s financial status.

Tamira has worked in the non-profit sector as a fundraiser for more than twenty years, using her expertise as a relationship builder to serve organizations like The Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), The American Red Cross, and Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity. She has also served on the Children’s Miracle Network’s Research & Education Funding Committee since 2000, where she helps to support special initiatives and programs at the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital.

“I am thrilled to join the team at GIV and be part of an organization that provides innovative educational programming so young Vermonters can both aspire and achieve!” says Tamira. “GIV is helping to empower the next generation: the explorers, the entrepreneurs, and the inventors who will shape our state and our world. I look forward to securing the resources needed to expand the organization’s impact.”

Tamira graduated from Mary Washington College with a Bachelor of Arts in Historic Preservation and Architectural Conservation - a degree she has put to good use alongside her non-profit work by restoring antique and classic cars for display at auto shows and meet-ups along the East Coast!

Tamira began her work with GIV last month. Executive Director Elizabeth Frascoia, an alumna herself, looks forward to “partnering with Tamira to bring transformational learning opportunities to students from Bennington to Brownington. Tamira brings a wealth of development knowledge and a passion for giving high school students the opportunities to find meaningful connection and learning in Vermont.”
