CHCB welcome three new members to board of directors

The Community Health Centers of Burlington (CHCB) are pleased to announce that Tim Ashe, Hemant Ghising, Ed.D., and Noma B. Anderson, Ph.D. are the newest community members to join their Board of Directors in 2021.

Ashe, who joined the Board in March, brings substantial government and professional experience to his Board service. His government background spans the local, state, and national levels, in addition to eight years working as an affordable housing developer. The former President of the Vermont Senate, he is now the Deputy State Auditor. As a longtime CHCB patient, he believes their mission of health care for all matches his own.

Dr. Ghising began his Board term in May. He came to Burlington from Bhutan in 2011 through the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program. Prior to coming to the United States, he worked as a volunteer teacher and devoted a number of years of community service in a refugee camp and the United States. Hemant received an Ed.D. Degree in educational leadership and policy study from the University of Vermont with a research focus in post-secondary education for refugees/immigrants and low-income communities.

Dr. Anderson is the dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Vermont, and most recent addition to CHCB’s Board, having begun her term this July. She brings a wealth of experience from both the medical and academic sectors, with professional areas of expertise in multicultural aspects of communication sciences and disorders, health and educational disparities, language acquisition, and childhood language disorders.

CHCB’s Chief Executive Officer, Jeff McKee, said of the organization’s newest board members: “CHCB is proud to have these highly engaged community members, who share our commitment to improving the health of ALL, join our Board of Directors. Their deep connections to the community and breadth of experience will help shape the future of CHCB as we us continue to grow to meet the evolving health care needs in our area.”

Since 1971, the Community Health Centers of Burlington have provided quality health care for Vermonters regardless of financial or insurance status. One of 12 Federally Qualified Health Centers in the state, CHCB has eight locations and is one of the largest nonprofit family health and dental practices in Chittenden and Grand Isle counties.
