Green Mountain United Way’s board of directors has added two new members. In January, the board unanimously elected Kevin Mead of Newport to as the newest board member at their quarterly board meeting. Mead is the Executive Director of the International Pemphigus & Pemphigoid Foundation and brings fundraising experience, as well as volunteer recruitment and management experience as the VP of Resource Development with Spokane of County United Way in Spokane, Washington to the Green Mountain United Way board.
Mead offered, “Returning to New England after 25 years away, I am able to see that while Vermont is prosperous in many ways, there are challenges we see on a daily basis. I’m pleased to be able to bring my experience to the board to support and build staff capacity and caring across the five counties Green Mountain United Way serves to address important issues like equity, diversity, and prosperity, as I come to understand local solutions that are unique to Vermont.”
“Kevin brings an in-depth understanding of the United Way network and the unique experience of having worked for a United Way, as well as having run nonprofit organizations. We are also thrilled to have Kevin represent the Northeast Kingdom region to help better connect with communities in our broad service region,” said Tawnya Kristen, Executive Director of Green Mountain United Way.
Also joining the board from the Central Vermont community is Gail Pivetti of Montpelier. Pivetti is Marketing Director for Green Mountain Community Fitness in Berlin. Gail brings with her a depth of experience in nonprofit communications and marketing with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
“I’m passionate about working to improve the lives of folks in our community and I believe Green Mountain United Way is uniquely positioned to provide wrap-around support for people who might not otherwise have access,” offered the new member from Montpelier. “At the board level, I bring a willingness to find and support new modes of operating and new ways of thinking; I am excited to be part of furthering the mission of Green Mountain United Way,” she continued.
In their new board roles Pivetti and Mead will help steer the organization’s mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all Vermonters in Caledonia, Essex, Orange, Orleans, and Washington counties in Vermont.
These new members fill seats vacated by Michael Rama and Carissa Tomczyk, both of Northfield, who stepped off the board when their terms ended.
