Sweet Clover Market announced today that the store is up for sale. After more than 14 years, owner Heather Belcher is hoping someone new is looking for an opportunity to lead this special natural foods market.
"Building Sweet Clover Market has been one of the most rewarding things I have accomplished in my career. The opportunity to feed my neighbors and support Vermont farmers has enriched me with thousands of connections to my community. We have the best customers I could have ever imagined. I'm excited to see how Sweet Clover Market can grow into the future with new ideas and energy from new leadership while I free myself up for some new exciting ventures.”
Started in 2005, Sweet Clover filled a niche in the Essex area. At the time, if you wanted to buy natural, organic, or locally raised foods, you had to travel to Burlington. Over time, the store has adapted to meet the needs of the community with additions from prepared foods to the much loved cremee window. Shoppers have more options today, but many local shoppers remain loyal to Sweet Clover.
The market is also known by its clientele as a store with a mission and a heart. It supports a wide range of local causes, often directed by the staff or the needs of the community.
“I think there is probably someone out there that will see what we’ve done with Sweet Clover in the first 15 years and will light up with their own ideas about what they could do in the next 15,” continued Belcher. “Or maybe there’s a local restauranteur who is looking to pivot to a COVID-proof, food-related business. Regardless, I know there’s likely a local person who is the right individual to lead the store into the future.”
