Community Health welcomes new CEO

Community Health welcomes Donald Reuther as the health network’s Chief Executive Officer. Reuther comes to the Rutland-based organization from the Baltimore Medical System FQHC where he was Chief Operating Officer and brings with him 17 years of FQHC experience.

“His vast experience in all areas of FQHCs, finance and business, along with management and personnel skills make him the right choice to lead our organization,” said board chair Bob Hedden.

At Baltimore Medical System, Reuther was responsible for the day-to-day operations of Maryland’s largest FQHC serving over 47,000 patients and offering primary care, pharmacy, behavioral health and substance abuse service lines.

“My passion is leadership with empathy and compassion, sharing my experience with every level of the clinical and administrative health care organization, improving business results and patient outcomes,” Reuther said.

Reuther holds a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on health care from Western Governors University, a bachelor’s degree from City University of Seattle and an associate’s degree in computer/information technology, administration and management.

The move to Vermont was easy for Reuther and his wife Victoria as she spent a great deal of her youth at her family's second home in Wallingford, so she knows and loves the Rutland region.

Reuther, who officially joined Community Health on December 2, follows Community Health CEO Grant Whitmer who retired in March.
