The Brattleboro Retreat is pleased to announce the appointment of David Burke as the hospital’s new chief financial officer (CFO). He takes the place of Arthur Nichols who recently retired. David comes to the Retreat with more than 20 years of healthcare financial management and leadership experience in various settings including a specialty benefit management company, a community hospital, and community health centers.
“I am excited and honored to be joining such an outstanding organization,” said Burke. “I look forward to contributing to the Brattleboro Retreat’s future success.”
He served most recently as the CFO of Duffy Health Center in Hyannis, MA. Prior to that, he worked for more than 5 years as vice-president/chief financial officer at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Previous experience also includes a two-year stint as vice president of the board of directors for the Bethel Visiting Nurse Association in Bethel, CT.
“David is a strong addition to the Retreat’s senior leadership team,” said Louis Josephson, president and chief executive officer. “Our hospital will benefit tremendously from his expertise in healthcare finance as we work to address the complex fiscal challenges that are unique to running a rural hospital specializing in mental health and addiction care.”
David holds a bachelor’s degree in Business with a major in Accounting from Northeastern University. He also holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Sacred Heart University.
He and his wife Heather have two children, Andrew, a videographer in Dover, NH, and Sarah, a second year PA student at Tufts Medical School. The couple is looking forward to living in the Brattleboro area where Heather’s grand-parents lived for many years.
