The Board of Directors of Vermont Information Technology Leaders, Inc. (VITL) announces that Beth Anderson will become President and Chief Executive Officer of VITL on December 2, 2019. She succeeds Michael K. Smith, who completed his role as interim CEO of the organization.
“I am very happy that Beth has agreed to join VITL as President and CEO,” said Dr. Bruce Bullock, Chair of the VITL Board. “Her operational experience leading change and improving the use of data in both the public and private sectors will help ensure VITL continues to deliver valuable services for the State and our other customers. Beth’s significant financial experience will help VITL meet the challenges of an evolving market in the years ahead. I know she will complement the strong team at VITL and will help them to continue to deliver improvements designed to make access to health care data easier and more impactful for Vermont’s providers, patients, and other stakeholders.”
Beth Anderson was selected after an extensive search process to select a permanent President and CEO and following Smith’s departure as interim CEO to the role of Secretary of Human Services. Smith made significant strides in streamlining VITL, improving patient matching, helping providers improve data quality, and strengthening its responsiveness to the needs of its customers in service to the State’s Health Information Exchange Strategic Plan. Anderson will help VITL solidify this progress. Specifically, she will continue VITL’s work with Vermont partners, including the Blueprint for Health, to deliver a platform for collaborative services that will incorporate higher quality data and matching with a master patient index that will significantly improve the value of VITL’s data repository to providers and patients. As CEO, Anderson will benefit from productive partnerships across all sectors of health care in Vermont, along with a dedicated leadership team and staff at VITL who have deep experience in this field.
“VITL has accomplished so much in the last few years, thanks to the leadership of Mike Smith and the tremendous efforts of VITL’s staff,” said Anderson. “I am excited to now lead VITL forward and help it continue to deliver on behalf of Vermonters. I am particularly optimistic that VITL’s role as a health care data repository for reporting and better patient care will help drive positive outcomes for Vermonters.”
Beth comes to VITL after a long and varied career. Most recently, Beth has served as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the City of Burlington, Vermont, where she has been responsible for ensuring the effective stewardship of city assets, including developing and managing the annual operating budget and overseeing financing activities, and effective teamwork across City departments.
