White River Junction VA Medical Center welcomes geriatric physician

Alison Romegialli, MD has joined the White River Junction VA Medical Center to provide specialized, person-centered care for aging Veterans. As a Geriatrician, Dr. Romegialli is specially trained to manage health issues in older adults and provide care to the whole person.

Dr. Romegialli graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, CT and received her medical training at Yale New Haven Hospital, becoming certified in both Geriatric and Internal Medicine. She was elected Chief Resident at Yale and has a strong interest in medical education. She currently serves on the Ethics Committee, Wound Committee, and Geriatric Committee at White River Junction VA Medical Center.

Dr. Romegialli provides specialized treatment for older Veterans experiencing multiple, complex medical conditions including dementia and memory impairment as well as evaluation and treatment of other common geriatric conditions such as incontinence, falls and depression. She has a special interest in reducing polypharmacy in the aging Veteran. Polypharmacy is the simultaneous, sometimes dangerous use of many medications which can pose the risk of adverse reactions in the older population.

“My primary goal for all my patients is to provide individualized care consistent with their values and goals for the remaining years of their life. Even when a condition can’t be cured, we strive to improve function which, in turn, improves quality of life”, explains Dr. Romegialli. Because of this, she has dedicated time in her clinics to focus on goals of care and help veterans make end of life decisions.

“We serve thousands of older Veterans,” says Dr. Christopher Nice, Chief of Primary Care. “Being able to access expert geriatric care enhances services for our aging Veterans.” If you are interested in accessing geriatric services, please speak with your primary care provider or call 802-295-9363 x5721 for more information.
