Seven new members elected to Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center

The Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center is pleased to announce the election of three new members to its Lebanon board of directors and a new chair, vice chair and four new members to its Friends South board. As active community members, each person will serve as an ambassador for Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center to people in Vermont and New Hampshire, finding ways to increase awareness and fundraising for this nationally recognized center.

“The Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center plays a crucial role in achieving the Cancer Center’s mission,” says Steven Leach, MD, cancer center director. “The Friends’ ongoing work with the people in our region – producing events, conveying important information to the community as well as bringing important messages back – creates a strong relationship with the people we serve. I very much look forward to working with these new Friends.”

The Lebanon Friends board welcomes the following outstanding individuals as directors:

• Brenda Balenger, Sunapee, NH, clinical trials regulatory monitor and founder and manager of Manchester Rowing Alliance and of Lake Sunapee Rowing Club

• George Chait, Sunapee, NH, retired builder and restaurateur

• Carin Reynolds, Hanover, NH, attorney and Lebanon HS rowing coach

Elected to a two-year term as an officer of the Friends South Board:

Chair: Christine Freitas, Hanover, NH – retail manager and merchandiser

Vice Chair: Melissa Soucy, Manchester, NH – HR officer at Schleuniger, Inc., Manchester, NH

The Friends South board welcomes the following outstanding individuals as directors:

• Nancy McComas, Alexandria, NH - plans, develops, and implements health care programs for people

• Stephanie McComas, Alexandria, NH - breast cancer survivor whose passion is caring for others

• Vicki Provencher, Hudson, NH – controller at Dube Construction Plus, Hampstead, NH

• Karen Veinotte, Brentwood, NH – retired advertising account executive with Comcast Spotlight, New York, NY

Faces in the Community

The Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center Board of Directors is a passionate group of individuals, ready to create and promote the Friends fundraising events and the outstanding research and care happening at Dartmouth’s Norris Cotton Cancer Center. There are two boards, Lebanon and South, comprised of between 18 and 22 members who sign on for three-year terms.

Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center

The Friends of Norris Cotton Cancer Center is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cancer research and patient supportive services at Norris Cotton Cancer Center, a world-renowned cancer treatment and research facility affiliated with The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System. The Friends began in 1982 and during the 37 years it’s been supporting Norris Cotton Cancer Center, more than $40 million has been raised to fight cancer and support patients.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center (NCCC) combines advanced cancer research at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth with patient-centered cancer care provided at Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lebanon, at NCCC regional locations in Manchester, Keene, and Nashua, N.H., and Bennington and St. Johnsbury, Vt., and at nine partner hospitals throughout New Hampshire and Vermont.
