Alzheimer’s Association welcomes new director of programs

The Alzheimer’s Association has recently appointed Emily Vivyan to serve as Director of Programs. “We are so pleased to welcome Emily to our team” stated Grace Gilbert-Davis, Executive Director of the Vermont Chapter. “She brings tremendous expertise, talent and energy to our Chapter and the Alzheimer’s movement.”

Emily Vivyan obtained her Master's in Social Work at the State University of New York at Albany. As a social worker, she has worked with many individuals from varying backgrounds and managed an adult day service program in the Capital Region of New York. She served as the Supervisor of Case Management at Community Health Centers of Burlington prior to joining the Alzheimer's Association.

An estimated 5.8 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2019, including 200,000 under the age of 65. Of the estimated 5.8 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2019, 13,000 are Vermont residents with an additional 30,000 Vermonters serving as unpaid caregivers. In 2018, these caregivers provided 34,000,000 total hours of unpaid care, valued at $434,000,000.

To support those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease throughout the state, the Alzheimer’s Association, Vermont Chapter provides support services and education programs, advocates for Alzheimer's and dementia-related legislative issues, and funds Alzheimer's research.
