Christopher Gendron, PE, has been named Vermont’s 2019 Young Engineer of the Year. Mr Gendron was selected for this award based on his educational achievements, professional society activities, professional accomplishments, and civic involvement. Mr Gendron graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering cum laude from Norwich University in 2010. He was vice president of Norwich student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He obtained his Vermont Professional Engineering license in 2015.
Following his graduation, Mr Gendron accepted a position at Stantec Consulting Ltd in the Pavement Management Group and then joined Stantec’s roadway group, where he began modeling roadways for multimillion-dollar construction projects. In 2013 Mr Gendron received a Stantec Design and Technical Excellence Award for his work on the VTrans Waterbury Main Street project, where he was responsible for producing plans for a major utility undergrounding that required close coordination with seven different utility companies and creative plan presentation.
Mr Gendron found his real passion in Civil/Site and Stormwater Design, and his current position with Stantec as a Project Manager renders him responsible for creating quality construction documents and providing professional engineering recommendations to clients with his primary focus in stormwater management, site design, aviation, utilities and general transportation engineering. He continues to advance stormwater technology in Vermont to address the state’s numerous challenges in these areas.
Mr Gendron serves as president-elect for the Vermont chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and he is active in his community with Local Motion and Habitat for Humanity. He and his wife Cassie have one daughter.
Mr Gendron will be presented with his award at the annual Engineers Week banquet, which will be held on February 22.
Vermont Engineers Week is sponsored annually by the state’s engineering societies, and the Vermont Young Engineer of the Year award is presented to a licensed professional engineer or registered engineering intern in Vermont. Selection of the award winner is made by a committee comprised of the five most recent winners of the Vermont Engineer of the Year award.
