AllEarth Rail, LLC is pleased to announce the hiring of Steve Wichmann as Director of Mechanical Operations. Wichmann comes to AllEarth Rail with twenty-two years of experience switching, running, and managing railroad operations. He also brings expertise in working on railroad equipment, steam and diesel engines, and passenger cars. Prior to joining AllEarth Rail, Wichmann was the Assistant Vice-President of Mechanical Operations for Genesee and Wyoming Railroad, where he managed mechanical and environmental operations for the Northeast Region. Previously he has served as the Chief Mechanical Officer for the New England Central Railroad and the Assistant General Manager for the Connecticut Southern Railroad. Earlier in his career, Wichmann was a mechanic, a conductor, an engineer, and an HVAC and refrigeration service technician.
“Making our fleet of passenger rail cars fully operational is a critical next step toward our company’s vision to provide reliable and cost-effective community rail service for Vermonters,” said Charlie Moore, president of AllEarth Rail, LLC. “Steve Wichmann is uniquely qualified to get this done quickly.”
In 2017, AllEarth Rail invested in 12 refurbished, self-propelled, Budd stainless steel railcars designed for rural passenger rail service. The Budd rail cars offer flexibility, low operating costs, and reliability for the short-haul commuter rail service so needed in Vermont. Each Budd car is fitted with two diesel engines, allowing for multi-directional while eliminating the need for a separate locomotive.
“We are excited that Steve is aboard,” said David Bittersdorf, the founder of AllEarth Rail. “We know that we have found the perfect person with the perfect blend of experience and skills to help us get our Budd cars rolling!”
