The White River Junction VA Medical Center (WRJ VAMC) is pleased to announce the formal selection of Mr Matthew Mulcahy, as recipient of the 2017 American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) “Regent’s Early Career Healthcare Executive Award”. Mr Mulcahy was presented this award in front of his VA peers during the recent ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership in Chicago, Illinois. Mulcahy was recognized for this award based, in part, on his leadership as the Associate Director/Chief Operating Officer for the White River Junction VAMC. Mr Alfred Montoya, the Director of the WRJ VAMC wholeheartedly supports this distinguished honor by stating, “In my interactions with Matt, it is clear that he embodies not only the core values of the American College of Healthcare Executives, but he also embraces the VA’s core values and ensures that every action is done with the interest of the Veteran at the forefront.”

Mr Mulcahy was appointed the Associate Director of the VA Medical Center in April of 2016. He began his duties as the Acting Associate Medical Center Director/Chief Operating Officer in October of 2015. Through his persistent and tenacity the Medical Center has been able to attain a level of clinical operations unsurpassed by any VA facility in the region.

Mr Mulcahy began his VA career in June of 2007 as the Chief of Facilities Management Service (FMS). During his tenure as the facility’s Chief of FMS, Mr Mulcahy successfully oversaw the planning, implementation, and completion of over $70 million in infrastructure upgrades to the White River Junction VAMC.

Prior to starting his VA career, Mr Mulcahy was an officer in the United States Navy’s Submarine Force for twelve years, where he served in a variety of positions with increasing responsibility, to include: Flag Aide and the Chief Engineer of a fast attack nuclear submarine.

Mr Mulcahy first joined the US Military as an enlisted member of Marine Corps. While serving, he was selected for a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and attended Tulane University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.

Medical Center Leadership and staff are very proud to share this announce with our community stakeholders and the general public at large.
