Penrose Jackson, the director of community health improvement at The University of Vermont Medical Center and the president of the UVM Alumni Association, received the Association for Community Health Improvement’s (ACHI) first “Spirit of the Community Leadership Champion Award.” The national award, designed to recognize an individual in a leadership position who has championed policies that have elevated the organization’s community health practices to benefit at-risk populations, was presented to Jackson earlier in the month at the ACHI’s annual conference in Denver.
“The ACHI award committee was impressed with Penrose’s many years of building community partnerships and her dedication to the health of our most vulnerable populations,” said Julie Cole, senior community benefits strategist at the UVM Medical Center, who worked with a number of colleagues to draft the nomination that led to the award.
A resident of Hinesburg, Vt, Jackson graduated from the University of Vermont and participated in UVM’s masters’ degree program in American history. Her engagement with the University is extensive, spanning more than two decades and including her current role as the president of the UVM Alumni Association. She has generously volunteered her time serving on boards of more than a dozen local and national organizations.
