The Burlington Business Association (BBA) is proud to recognize the following as winners of the 2017 BBA Awards. Seventh Generation is the winner of the Business of the Year award, David Provost is the winner of the Tim Halvorson Business Person of the Year award, Select Design is the winner of the Hertzel Pasackow Architectural Excellence award and The Vermont Air National Guard (VTANG) will receive a Special Recognition Award. Winners will be recognized at the 39th Annual Dinner, April 6th at the Burlington Hilton. “This year’s honorees all have distinguished histories in our community. They each serve to enrich not only our local business community, but the city of Burlington as a whole,” said BBA Executive Director Kelly Devine.
The 2017 Business of the year award goes to Seventh Generation, in recognition of exemplary business practices, contributions to the community, promotion of a positive image for Burlington, and business success. Founded in 1988, Seventh Generation is a stalwart in Burlington’s business community and employs over 100 people here in Burlington, with revenues over $200 million.
The Burlington Business Association is proud to announce David Provost, Vice President for Finance & Administration at Middlebury College, is the winner of the 2017 Tim Halvorson Business Person of the Year Award. This award seeks to recognize a local individual who presents the combination of being a business leader whose work has promoted the economic vitality of Burlington, and who has devoted their time, energy and resources to the betterment of the Burlington community. David Provost has been an important figure in the local business community for many years. In his twelve years at Champlain College he led efforts to finance develop multiple projects, including the currently under construction Eagles Landing student apartment building on St. Paul Street. He has also volunteered with The Boys and Girls Club, Wake Robbin and on the Blue Ribbon Commission for Burlington Telecom.
The winner of the 2017 Hertzel Pasackow Architectural Excellence Award is Select Design. Select Design completed significant interior and exterior work on their office space on Flynn Avenue in Burlington. Burlington based SAS Architects has worked with Select since 2004, renovating and reinventing the spaces in a vintage factory building that was originally home to the Vermont Milk Chocolate Company in the early years of the 20th century. Established in 1986 the award honors Hertzel Pasackow, owner of the Mayfair on upper Church Street, and founding member of both the BBA and the Church Street Marketplace. This award honors “significant contribution to the physical or architectural quality of Burlington.”
Additionally in 2017 the Burlington Business Association will give a special recognition award to the Vermont Air National Guard. This is the first time the BBA has presented an award of this nature. VTANG has been an integral part our area for 70 years and employs more than 1000 men and women, two-thirds of this staff are part time and work in full time jobs across Vermont, New England and the nation. In 2013 the Air Force displayed their confidence in our “Green Mountain Boys” when they announced their intention to base a squadron of F-35’s at VTANG’s facility in South Burlington.
