CPSF announces new board leadership

The Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPSF) has elected Ben Gould, Esq Board President and Barbara Wessel as Vice President.

Benjamin L Gould, Esq: Serving as President of the Board, Ben is a Director with the Burlington law firm of Paul Frank + Collins PC, Ben specializes in corporate transactions, regulatory compliance, and coverage issues for captive insurance companies and other non-traditional insurers, as well as real estate transactions. He is a member of the Vermont Bar Association and the Vermont Captive Insurance Association. His mother is a three-time cancer survivor, and Ben joined the board in 2014 to help make sure other cancer patients could benefit from the strong support network that his mother was fortunate enough to enjoy. In his spare time, Ben is a certified soccer referee, officiating youth and adult amateur matches. He also enjoys hiking, traveling, skiing, and rooting for the New England Patriots. Ben lives in Colchester with his wife, Maggie Frye, and their daughter, Jenna.

Barbara Wessel: Barbara joined the Board in 2011 with an extensive background in both higher education and non-profit advancement with a strong focus in the medical arena. She is the retired owner and president of her own advancement consulting firm, Wessel Associates, where she offered a broad array of services in fund development and board development for higher education and medical arena clients including numerous foundations. Prior to launching her own business, she was the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at St Michael’s College and the former Senior Director of Development at Syracuse University. Barbara is a seasoned member of several national boards and committees and currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra’s Governing Board and chairs its Development Committee. She is founder of the Gamma Phi Beta Alumnae Chapter of Vermont and is a former chair of the Sorority’s foundation board of trustees.

The Cancer Patient Support Foundation (CPSF) is the only local nonprofit providing emergency financial assistance to cancer patients and their families throughout the state of Vermont and Northern New York. In 2016, CPSF directly awarded nearly $190,000 to 509 local families touched by cancer. These funds helped patients with the costs associated with treatment including transportation, medical co-pays & deductibles, and medications. In addition, CPSF assists with the cost of housing, utilities, home heating, food, childcare, durable medical equipment, and so much more.

CPSF’s mission is to provide support to local cancer patients and their families, in a time of extraordinary need, by providing financial assistance, underwriting counseling services, and acting as a resource during diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
