The Village School of North Bennington thanks outgoing Board of Trustee members Jay Girvin, David Monks and Rachel Schumacher for their many years of outstanding service and dedication.
VSNB also welcomes 3 new members to the Board of Trustees: Brian Murphy, Sue Maguire and Jill VanOrden.
Brian Murphy, a resident of Shaftsbury, serves as Vice President of Finance and Administration for Bennington College and as the College’s Treasurer. Prior to joining Bennington in 2014, Murphy was the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, responsible for a staff of 100 and an operating budget of $85 million.
Sue Maguire, a resident of North Bennington, has been a Vermont educator since 1977. After teaching for 15 years, she was the principal of Molly Stark Elementary School in Bennington for 11 years and then principal of Mt. Anthony High School in Bennington for 12 years. She led the transformation of both schools into full service schools that integrate educational, health, and social supports at the school site. Services at Molly Stark included preschool, child care, after school programs, mentoring, health services, and an array of family outreach. At Mt. Anthony she tailored the full service school concept to fit the needs of adolescents. She recently retired and is teaching graduate level courses in educational leadership as well as consulting in schools that are developing the full service school model.
Jill VanOrden was born and raised in Bennington, Vermont. Educated in local schools, with two parents as teachers, she has long been a champion of our beautiful part of the state. Jill studied art at the Maine Photographic Workshops, Lacoste Ecoles des Beaux Arts, and received her Bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Vermont. Mother of two students at the Village School of North Bennington, she is currently teaching the visual arts at Mount Anthony Union High School.
