The Northeastern Loggers’ Association (NELA) recently honored Clifford Allard and Allard Lumber Company of Brattleboro, Vermont as the recipient of its 2015 Outstanding Sawmill Operator Award. NELA Board Secretary William Sayre presented the award at the Annual Loggers’ Banquet in South Burlington, Vermont in a ceremony attended by over 200 members of the Northeast’s forest products industry.
During the awards presentation, Secretary Sayre told the audience “It’s my pleasure to tell you about Cliff Allard and Allard Lumber. Allard Lumber is located in Brattleboro, Vermont and was started by Cliff and his brother on the farm of Robert Allard, senior. At the start they had a 100-year-old hand-set circle mill sawing custom orders. Currently in their 42nd year of business, the mill has grown considerably from their humble start and now includes kiln drying, planing and grading lumber. Allard Lumber, with markets worldwide, is known for producing high quality hardwood lumber. Other products include veneer logs, rough sawn hardwood lumber, pallet cants, railroad ties, chips, bark and sawdust. The business also includes log concentration yards in Pawlet, Vermont and North Haverhill, New Hampshire.”
Allard Lumber has 45 employees and continues to be operated by Cliff Allard and family. The Allards are multi-generation Vermonters – and it’s a family belief that the Northeast’s greatest resource is our timberland, and that proper management of that resource can support our families and communities well into the future. Allard Lumber works closely with forest landowners creating individualized plans that fit their lands and needs. They employ well-trained loggers, and have committed to developing positive, professional and long-term relationships with forest landowners and their families.”
Sayre concluded “Allard lumber is a member of and supports many forest industry organizations. The company also supports educational activities and training for the industry as well as for students. Cliff Allard and Allard Lumber are known for their integrity, loyalty, hard work and the pride they take in their company and in producing high quality wood products. Please join me in congratulating Cliff Allard and Allard Lumber Company as the recipient of this year’s Outstanding Sawmill Operator award.” The Northeastern Loggers’ Association, headquartered in Old Forge, NY, is a trade group representing nearly 2,000 members of the Northeast’s logging, sawmilling, and paper industry. The Loggers’ Banquet is held each year immediately prior to the Northeastern Forest Products Equipment Exposition.
