Watersheds United Vermont welcomes new director

Watersheds United Vermont (WUV) welcomes new Director, Lyn Munno, to lead the efforts to empower community-based watershed groups in all parts of the state to protect and restore Vermont’s waters.

For several decades, Vermonters have stepped forward to protect and enhance water quality and river health in their home watersheds. Many have formed formal watershed organizations that monitor water quality, conduct public outreach, and sponsor restoration projects and river cleanup events.

In the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, watershed associations helped their communities develop appropriate flood responses to restore damaged areas while protecting water quality. Watershed groups recognized the need to collaborate at a statewide level and articulated a desire for a more formal network. Watersheds United Vermont was formed in 2013 to support the state’s local watershed groups through information sharing, mentoring, collaboration and capacity building.

Ron Rhodes of the Connecticut River Watershed Council recognizes that “Lyn has the experience to lead Watersheds United Vermont and to foster collaboration among our members and partner organizations. She has a strong environmental background, fundraising skills and the passion needed to continue WUV's great work in the years ahead."

Speaking about her new position with WUV, Lyn said: “Watershed groups in Vermont are doing tremendous work protecting Vermont's water. I am committed to helping provide resources, information and opportunities that will help support watershed groups throughout Vermont in their efforts."

Lyn holds a Masters in Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. During her time in Vermont, Lyn has worked as the Conservation Planner for the Vermont Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and, most recently, as the Business Manager for the nature education organization, EarthWalk, in Plainfield. She lives in Montpelier on the North Branch of the Winooski with her husband and two boys, ages 9 and 11.
