The J. Warren & Lois McClure Foundation, a supporting organization of the Vermont Community Foundation which aims to improve access to college and career education for all Vermonters, welcomed Tim Donovan to its board of directors in January. Tim brings several decades of experience as a higher education leader in Vermont and has a long track record of advocating for Vermont students: particularly low-income and first-generation college students and working adults seeking to further their education.
Before retiring in 2014, Tim served as the Chancellor of the Vermont State Colleges. During his time as Chancellor, he expanded college access for high school students and provided leadership in the passage of the Flexible Pathways bill (Act 77) in 2013. Tim’s rich experience in higher education also includes 24 years at the Community College of Vermont (CCV), where he served as president from 2001 to 2009. During his tenure as president, enrollment expanded significantly and CCV became Vermont’s second-largest college.
Tim has been well-recognized for his leadership in education, receiving the Eleanor M. McMahon Award for Lifetime Achievement from the New England Board of Education in 2014. In 2013, he received the New England Regional Champions for Children Award. Additionally, Tim recently served on the boards of the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce, Vermont Business Roundtable, Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies, and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Tim lives in Montpelier.
Established in 1995, the J. Warren & Lois McClure Foundation envisions a Vermont where no promising job goes unfilled for lack of a qualified applicant. Since 2008, the Foundation has awarded over $2.5 million to promising programs that promote college and career education for all Vermonters.
