Burlington hires new recreation program manager for Park, Recreation and Waterfront Department

The Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department welcomes Candice Holbrook as the new Recreation Program Manager. Candice is a National Recreation & Parks Association Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP). She held the position of Recreation Program Manager for the Oregon, Illinois Park District for the past four years. She is a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration. Candice also received her Master of Science in Recreation and Leisure Studies from the University of North Texas.

The department received over 110 applications for the Recreation Program Manager position and Candice was chosen from a field of over 60 qualified candidates. In addition to her outstanding qualifications, recent awards helped her stand out from other applicants. Within the past year Candice has received the Oregon Parks District Outstanding Performance Award and the Eastern Illinois 2015 Rising Star Alumni Award.

Superintendent Gary Rogers noted, "We look forward to her positive energy and are confident her experience and expertise in supervising recreation programming will be of great benefit to our department and to the Burlington community."

Candice has had a very warm welcome from Burlington Parks, Recreation, and Waterfront since joining the team on January 4. She says, "I feel very lucky to be a part of this beautiful community. My main goal aligns with BPRW's: to help create programs that grow, inspire, and create inclusive social interaction for all individuals. There is a lot of potential to create new programs with the diverse populations that reside in Burlington. Targeting those populations, while following recreation trends, will be key when creating new programs in the future."

The Department oversees all of Burlington's 37 Parks, 550+ Acres of Open Space, 3 Public Beaches, Street Trees & Greenways, Community Gardens, 3 Cemeteries, Miller Recreation Center, Leddy Ice Arena, Memorial Auditorium, Campground, Boathouse Marina and all Recreation Programs.

It is the Department's Mission to connect diverse and dynamic public spaces and programs which grow, inspire and create inclusive social interaction through land, water and people.
