Dr. Edgar Holmes, III, MD orthopaedic surgeon and principal founder of the Vermont Orthopaedic Clinic was recently inducted into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame honors athletes, pioneers of Vermont skiing and special contributors who promoted and or contributed to the sport of skiing in Vermont. Dr. Holmes was inducted as someone who “exemplifies the best of what a person can do in ski-related sports medicine and in being a support person to elite skiers and skiers of all levels.”
Dr. Holmes, a life-long competitive athlete, pioneered new techniques in managing ski specific injuries including ACL reconstruction from open to arthroscopic technique, progressive ski specific rehabilitation and performance training in early post-op period after ACL surgery in athletes, as well as total joint replacement for ski athletes that allowed athletes to return to their sport.
“For more than 40 years, Dr. Holmes demonstrated his commitment to orthopaedic surgery,” said Tom Huebner, President and CEO of Rutland Regional Medical Center. “As an excellent clinician, educator, and athlete, Dr. Holmes embodies the qualities associated with this honor and is most-deserving to receive this award in recognition of his dedication to winter sport athletes.”
