Southern Vermont College (SVC) has announced the appointment of Jennifer Macksey as the College’s new Chief Financial Officer/Chief Administrative Officer.
Macksey brings over 20 years of extensive knowledge and experience working with financial systems for higher education as well as local government. Since 2008, she has served as a member of the financial leadership team at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) as the Director of Student Accounts/Bursar. She also taught courses in the Business and Economics Department. Prior to MCLA, Macksey worked for the City of North Adams, MA, as Treasurer and Tax Collector and as Director of Finance and Chief Procurement Officer.
“The SVC community is delighted to welcome Jennifer as our new CFO/CAO,” said David Evans, President of the College. “She has incredible knowledge of finance at all levels, coupled with her experience and keen insight of the financial workings of a College. We are fortunate to have Jennifer at the helm of our College operations.”
In her new role, Macksey will be an integral part of the Senior Leadership Team reporting to the President. She will oversee long-range financial planning and budgeting, audits, investments, accounting, finance and bank relationships, risk management, purchasing and contracts and compliance student accounts and financial aid, as well as facilities and grounds. Macksey replaces Claire Wurmfeld at SVC, who recently relocated to Washington, DC.
While at MCLA, Macksey’s office was in charge of setting up operations for billing and collection and was responsible for budgets, audits, collections, and revenue forecasting, as well as providing statistical and financial reports for the operations of the College, maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations, and assisted in the development of policy and procedure manuals, audit information, annual budget, and information related to fiscal matters.
For 13 years, Macksey worked for the City of North Adams: 8 years as Treasurer and Tax Collector and 5 years as Director of Finance and Chief Procurement Officer. From those positions, she brings extensive experience with budget development and oversight, collections, risk management, contract management, grant administration, and procurement.
Macksey is a member of the Masssachusetts Bursar’s Association and Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association, and previously she had been a member of the North Adams Fair Housing Committee, North Adams Municipal Credit Union Board, and Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Macksey received an M.S. degree in Educational Administration from Bay Path College and a B.S. degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Trinity College of Vermont.
