The Vermont Association of Broadcasters has announced that radio and television engineer Joe Tymecki will receive the Snyder-Teffner Award at the VAB’s December 5 Hall of Fame Banquet in Burlington.
The award, named in honor of longtime Hall Communications engineer and VAB Treasurer Dennis Snyder and the late WCAX-TV engineer and VAB President Ted Teffner, is designed to honor those who have demonstrated a career of excellence behind the scenes.
Tymecki currently serves as Chief Technology Officer and Director of Engineering for Vermont Public Radio. His career has included on-air radio work at WWPV, WVTC, WCFR, WVMT and 95 Triple X in Colchester, where he hosted the morning show for eight months.
Since 1986, however, he has focused primarily on engineering work. He served as Chief Engineer for Sison Broadcasting and WCAX-TV, and as Engineering Supervisor and Chief Technology Officer for Vermont PBS. Outside of Vermont, Tymecki served as Engineering Manager for TBS and Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta and as Director of Engineering Design and Integration for The Weather Channel.
His community involvement includes volunteer work as the Technical Committee Chair of the Mount Mansfield Colocation Corporation, member of both the Vermont Department of Public Safety’s Amber Alert and EAS committees and is the former national Chairman of the PBS Enterprise Technology Advisory Committee.
“It’s hard to think of someone more deserving of this award than Joe Tymecki,” said VAB Executive Director Jim Condon. “He is a true public servant who has dedicated countless hours helping broadcasters be prepared for emergency situations and helping to improve the Amber Alert program.”
The award will be presented December 5 at the VAB’s Hall of Fame Banquet at the Hilton Burlington.
The VAB has already announced that Vox AM/FM owner and General Manager Ken Barlow, Local 22/Local 44 Operations Director Ken Kasz and WJOY morning show host Ginny McGehee will all be inducted into the VAB Hall of Fame this year. In addition, longtime WPTZ-TV reporter Stewart Ledbetter will be presented with the Distinguished Service Award and WSYB radio in Rutland will be the recipient of the Alan H. Noyes Community Service Award.
