GeoDesign Inc. announced the promotion of Shawn P. Kelley, Ph.D., P.E. to senior associate. Kelley, a firm shareholder, will continue to provide project management and develop and serve new clients based in the Windsor, VT office. Starting with the firm in June 2004, he manages a number of different projects, including geotechnical engineering design work, construction observation services and geotechnical instrumentation. He also manages the soil testing laboratory in the Windsor office.
Mr. Kelley has served on the Board of the Directors for the Vermont Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for several years, including a two-year term as President from 2007-2009. Mr. Kelley currently serves as ASCE Region 1 Governor representing civil engineers from New England, New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico. He also serves as a member on the ASCE national Committee on Education, as well as a corresponding member of the ASCE Leadership Training Committee and the Raise the Bar Committee. Mr. Kelley is also active with the state member organization (MO) of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) in Vermont. He serves as the ACEC/VT chairman for the State Legislative Committee.
In 2012, Mr. Kelley was recognized as an Outstanding Junior Alumni by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst’s College of Engineering. Kelley holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in civil engineering from UMass, and is a registered Professional Engineer. As a volunteer, Mr. Kelley is active in his home town of Hartford, VT. He serves as a Conservation Commissioner and a committee member on the Town of Hartford Solid Waste Committee. He also sits on the board of directors for the Stony Creek Condo Association.
