Grafton Village Cheese announces the appointment of Joseph Green as cheesemonger. Grafton Cheese produces award-winning aged Vermont cheddar and specialty cheeses and is a mission-driven business of the nonprofit Windham Foundation.
As cheesemonger, Green is responsible for managing Grafton's retail cheese inventory and serving as resident cheese expert for its two retail stores in Brattleboro and Grafton. He is a Certified Cheese Professional, having passed the American Cheese Society certification exam, a mark of excellence and achievement that reflects a commitment to the best possible care for cheese. Only four Certified Cheese Professionals reside in the state of Vermont.
Grafton Village Cheese's two retail stores showcase not only its line of aged cheddar and cave aged specialty cheeses, but also a breadth of artisan cheese with a focus on producers from Vermont and surrounding states. The stores also feature wine, craft beer, specialty food, Vermont products and gifts. The Grafton store is open daily from 10 am - 5 pm. In Brattleboro, the store operates daily from 10 am - 6 pm, with a Friday closure at 8 pm.
"Joe is already proving to be a fantastic resource for our customers as his knowledge and passion for cheese are so deep, " said Sherry DiBernardo, Grafton's retail manager. "Whether a customer walks in and wants to know what to pair with their favorite wine, or wants to learn more about washed rind cheeses, Joe can help guide them to cheese happiness. We're really excited about having this new level of commitment for our customers."
Prior to his appointment at Grafton Cheese, Green was a cheesemonger and assistant store team leader for Di Bruno Brothers in Philadelphia. He also spent nearly four years as a baker and team leader at Against the Grain Gourmet in Brattleboro. His career has also included chef and restaurant management.
In addition to Green's cheese professional certification, Green earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Science from Antioch College. Originally from Plainville, NY, he is now residing in Southern Vermont with his family.
